Virtual picture tour of Malaysian Borneo

Malaysian Borneo is often referred to as East-Malaysia. Borneo is a large island in the South China Sea. The Southeast Asia Malay Archipelago is divided by different territories: the Malaysian states Sarawak and Sabah, the small nation of Brunei and the Indonesian state Kalimantan. Borneo is a popular travel destination to see the orangutans, the proboscis monkey, the immense biodiverse rainforests, white sandy beaches and crystal waters. I have selected my best photos to show you around Borneo. See the virtual picture tour of Malaysian Borneo and explore the jungles.

A few interesting places to visit in Borneo

Two large cities in Malaysian Borneo are Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. The highest mountain in Borneo is Mount Kinabalu. The mountain and national park are situated nearby the city Kota Kinabalu. The mountain is popular among climbers and sunrise lovers. Northern Sabah is known for the best snorkelling and diving spots.

Kuching is located in the southern state of Borneo, Sarawak. It is a large city (for Borneo standards) with a lively artisan, literature and performance community. From Kuching it is easy to visit several national parks, such as Bako National Park, Kubah National Park and the Wetlands National Park. At Semenggoh Wilflife Centre you can spot the orangutans.

Close to Brunei there is another national park worth visiting, Mulu National Park. At Mulu it is possible to visit 40 million year old caves. They organise several tours, such jungle treks, cave tours or go and see the bat exodus. A two hour drive from Miri is Niah National Park. Go for a jungle trek and admire the 30.000 year old cave paintings. Go to the official tourism website of Borneo and learn more about the places you can visit.
