Virtual picture tour of Portugal

Portugal is located in the south-west of Europe. The country is located next to Spain and enclosed by the Atlantic Ocean. Portugal is one of the oldest nations in Europe. Ancient Greeks lived in this region and the Ancient Romans once ruled Portugal. The country is long stretched and characterized by geographic differences. The Atlantic coast is around 800 km long and inland there are many mountain ranges to explore. Go for a virtual picture tour of Portugal and explore the country from your sofa.

The capital city of Portugal is Lisbon. The most wonderful thing in Lisbon is the comfortable atmosphere. The old city centre in Lisbon is an elegant and well planned 18th century area with an amazing view of the ocean. The maze of small streets, colourful houses, parks and public square give the city its own Mediterranean charm. The old yellow trams still run on some lines within the city. They date back to the beginning of the 20th century.

The Portuguese have a saying: Lisbon commands, Coimbra dreams and Porto works. Porto used to be an old trading centre. The most iconic landmark in Porto is the Dom Luís I bridge. It was constructed in 1886 by Gustave Eiffel. The bridge consists of 2 floors. The upper floor is only accessible for trams and pedestrians. The bridge was not made to hold the amount of traffic we have today. And so the upper level is closed for cars and other heavy traffic.
